Philip J. Altieri II

Of Counsel

Biography

Philip J. Altieri is of counsel for our office. He has been practicing personal injury in the State of California since 2011. He is originally from Ohio and attended Ohio University. After college, Phil moved to California in 2004 before attending law school. Like many others, Phil fell in love with San Diego and lived here for two years before attending law school at Cooley Law School in Michigan. After finishing law school, Phil wasted no time in returning to San Diego. Licensed in July 2011, Phil accepted a job at a boutique personal injury law firm. Within the first 4 months of his practice, he tried his first jury trial and argued a case on appeal in the San Diego division of the Fourth District Court of Appeal. There was no question that his very early years of practice were extremely demanding and challenging as he was practicing law at senior lawyer level.

However, being thrown into the deep end of the pool early in his career allowed him to hone his skills and go on his own in 2013. He left the boutique law firm and decided to pave his own way in solo practice. It was around this time that Phil met Mr. Brian Ellis of Ellis Helm, APC. Brian, who at that time had his own firm, helped Phil by referring cases to him that his office was unable to handle because of the firm’s volume of caseload or the firm’s unwillingness to take such cases. Phil, proving himself by showing Brian that he was very capable of handling various different types of personal injury cases from simple auto cases to disputed liability cases as well as medical and dental malpractice cases, became a reliable source for Mr. Ellis and his firm. As time progressed their business relationship grew and developed into a friendship. As such, in 2018, Phil began renting office space from Mr. Ellis. Since then, Mr. Joshua Helm, who was also a part of the firm back in 2018, has now become a partner of the firm, which today is known as Ellis Helm APC. Phil’s relationship has grown with the firm today that he has taken the of counsel role and Phil and Ellis Helm APC collaborate on cases together.

Today the firm is well versed and handles various different types of personal injury matters. One major area of personal injury that the firm handles is bicycle collision cases. California, and southern California in particular, is an area of the Country that boasts great weather all year around and beautiful coastlines and mountains, making it a cyclist’s paradise. Unfortunately, we do not live in an ideal world and tragedy does occur. Ellis Helm, APC has been helping those unfortunate cyclists for many years. This area of practice is particularly close to Phil’s heart. Phil is an avid road cyclist, who has participated in amatuer races to many single day organized Gran Fondos, as well as weekend group rides with local bicycle clubs and friends. Phil has an extreme passion for the sport of cycling and considers those a part of the sport like a close friend based on the shared interest. Therefore, to have the ability to help those who need it the most regarding something that Phil holds as such a high priority in his life is of a great honor to him.

Phil without question has the skills and competency that is required to provide representation to each and every client that he represents. However, you will not hear him talk about this. Rather what he prefers to talk about is the relationships that he has built with his clients and his ability to connect with them based on the empathy he has for them.
