Tractor-trailers serve an important role in the economy of the United States by transporting goods long distances in a relatively short amount of time. Most drivers are well-trained professionals. This is necessary because car accidents involving tractor-trailers potentially have devastating consequences. For example, two people were recently killed and six others injured in a recent crash in California.
According to reports, the incident occurred on a day in early August. While many of the details of the accident are unclear, witnesses reportedly observed a tractor-trailer swerving before striking two cars. Witnesses at the scene are said to have rushed to provide assistance to those involved in the accident.
One man says he heard a woman calling for help for her daughter. He says that the 6-year-old was not breathing and required CPR; she reportedly suffered a broken neck in the collision. Two others, a mother and daughter, passed away. The driver of the tractor-trailer and a passenger were discovered inside the truck, but the extent of their injuries are unclear.
Unfortunately, this California accident will likely create major turmoil in the lives of several families. Those who were injured — especially the young girl who suffered a broken neck — may never fully recover while those who lost loved ones must learn to cope with their losses. In the case of many car accidents, the circumstances of victims — including surviving family members — are complicated by lost wages, medical bills and funeral expenses. To help cope with these expenses, many choose to file a civil suit. If successfully presented, responsible parties could be ordered to pay victims damages.
