There are a variety of different ways to utilize California roadways. As such, all drivers — especially those in more traditional motor vehicles — must remain aware of the possibility that they may encounter nontraditional users and take appropriate care to protect their safety. Unfortunately, the smaller size of motorcycles can make them less visible, and a motorcycle accident can occur if proper care is not taken.
In fact, reports indicate that a 56-year-old male motorcyclist recently lost his life in an accident on a California roadway. The incident reportedly happened during the early morning hours of a day in mid-March. According to police, the motorcyclist was headed west at the time of the collision. Police say that the 21-year-old driver of a pickup truck approached an intersection.
The younger driver is said to have stopped at a stop sign but then attempted a left turn into the path of the motorcyclist, violating the latter’s right of way. The motorcyclist is said to have laid his motorcycle on its side but was unable to avoid a collision with the pickup. Unfortunately, he suffered massive trauma and died at the scene of the accident. Police say that the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and has been cooperating with police. Neither drugs or alcohol are believed to have played a role in the incident.
The man’s identity has not released in the immediate aftermath of the accident, pending notification of the man’s family. Following their notification, his family will be left to plan the funeral as a result of his unexpected and preventable death due to the California motorcycle accident. Often, families are unprepared to deal with the medical expenses that are connected with such a loss, leaving them to consider their legal options. Because a successfully presented wrongful death lawsuit could result in a monetary award that will help them cope with lost wages and funeral costs, many who lose family members due to another’s negligence choose this path.
