The incident reportedly happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. on a day in mid-December. According to reports, a patrol vehicle struck the rear of a sedan occupied by a woman and an infant on Interstate 5. The deputy’s vehicle reportedly came to a stop on an embankment.
Reports indicate that the deputy extricated the infant from the vehicle and begin performing CPR. The infant reportedly died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision after transport to the hospital by helicopter. Both the law enforcement officer and the driver of the sedan were also hospitalized. Though the deputy has since been released, the woman remained hospitalized, listed in critical condition.
