Fatal accident in California could lead to wrongful death claim

SERVING TEMECULA AND THE SAN DIEGO METRO

The loss of a child is a parent’s worst nightmare. This loss can be especially difficult when it comes during the holidays and as a result of a preventable accident. Unfortunately, one family in California is now coping with an unexpected, unimaginable loss, reportedly as a result of an accident involving a sheriff’s deputy. They could choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit as a result.

The incident reportedly happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. on a day in mid-December. According to reports, a patrol vehicle struck the rear of a sedan occupied by a woman and an infant on Interstate 5. The deputy’s vehicle reportedly came to a stop on an embankment.

Reports indicate that the deputy extricated the infant from the vehicle and begin performing CPR. The infant reportedly died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision after transport to the hospital by helicopter. Both the law enforcement officer and the driver of the sedan were also hospitalized. Though the deputy has since been released, the woman remained hospitalized, listed in critical condition.

Unfortunately, a family is now left facing the unthinkable. In addition to their emotional grief, they are also left with medical bills and funeral expenses. As such, they may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against those believed to be responsible for the incident. An attorney with experience with such cases in California can help them identify all parties holding liability and take appropriate action. While a successfully presented case will likely do little to lessen their grief, it can ensure that their financial responsibilities are met, allowing them to focus on coming to terms with their tragedy.
