Our readers may remember hearing about a tragic car accident back in February that nearly claimed the life of a young boy and killed his nanny. After months of focusing on nursing their son back to health, the family has recently spoken out about the incident for the first time.
The car accident occurred when a woman driving an SUV blew through a North County intersection, smashing into the woman as she pushed the boy in a stroller on their daily walk through the neighborhood. The woman died at the scene of the accident, and the boy was rushed to Rady Children’s Hospital after he suffered serious injuries, including broken bones, a shattered spleen and a fractured skull.
The woman behind the wheel of the SUV had just given birth the day before the tragic accident, and admitted to being sleep-deprived at the time of the collision. She later pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, running a red light and failure to yield. However, the boy’s parents think that police should have made her undergo a toxicology test to determine whether drugs or alcohol may have played a part in the wreck.
The woman who was killed had two children of her own who have now lost their primary caregiver and means of financial support. The woman’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit and may be able to get the compensation they need to survive after their mother was taken from them.
The family of the young boy is thankful that their son survived his brush with death, but he is still facing a long, painful and expensive healing process. So long as they do so before the civil statute of limitations runs out, the family of the boy could also file a lawsuit for damages, including for the pain and suffering and medical expenses their family has endured because of the terrible accident.
