People in San Diego may remember a horrific Northern California bus accident that occurred back in 2010 on Highway 99 in Fresno. The gruesome accident occurred when a Greyhound bus collided with an overturned SUV on the highway, severely injuring many of the passengers on board at the time, killing 2 passengers and the bus driver and also taking the lives of the three people in the overturned SUV.
Victims aboard the bus claim that the driver, a 57-year-old man, was driving way too fast and never even braked before slamming into the overturned SUV and then careening down an embankment. Greyhound claims their buses have a governor that prevents the buses from exceed 68 miles per hour, but concerned passengers said they witnessed the man driving 80 miles an hour shortly before the auto accident took place. In addition, the accident investigation revealed that the driver was not wearing his glasses, and had not had his eyes checked since 2003.
Greyhound has agreed to settle with the family of a 79-year-old man who was killed in the violent and tragic crash. His family brought a wrongful death claim against Greyhound, but ultimately settled for $2.1 million. Still other victims have not yet settled, and may be entitled to damages if the court finds that Greyhound was indeed negligent.
