San Diego area residents who have suffered burn injuries in an accident will likely need extensive — and expensive — treatments to recover. In some cases, the burns are so severe that the victims will have scars for the rest of their lives. In other cases, the burns could be bad enough that the victims may require difficult skin graft surgeries, or they may even be faced with the possibility of an amputation. These types of victims require the most specialized and dedicated care. But, are victims in the local area able to be treated at a “verified” burn trauma center?
The American Burn Association, in conjunction with the American College of Surgeons, have developed a “verification” program for burn trauma centers throughout the country. It is a voluntary program, but the standards for being certified as a verified burn center are very high, and many medical facilities aspire to gain this verification as proof of the sophisticated and dedicated care they provide.
As it stands right now, there are 63 verified burn centers in America. California residents will be happy to learn that nine of those 63 burn centers are located in their state. One, the University of California San Diego, is located in the local area.
The American Burn Association touts the verification of a burn trauma center as a mark of distinction. These facilities provide valuable medical treatment for victims who are attempting to overcome the most serious of burn injuries. Many different types of burn injuries can occur in an accident. If the accident was caused by another party’s recklessness or negligence, the burn victim may want to pursue financial compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
