For some people in California, there is nothing more exciting than a road trip with friends. Unfortunately, the excitement of the moment could result in risky actions that could have life-threatening consequences. For example, police say that speed may have been a factor in a recent crash that could ultimately result in a wrongful death lawsuit.
The incident happened as three young people were reportedly traveling to an arts and music festival in California in mid-April. Police say that a 21-year-old male was driving a sedan at a high rate of speed at approximately 4:30 a.m. According to reports, the vehicle exited the roadway before going down an embankment and striking two trees.
The force of the impact is said to have torn the vehicle in two. An 18-year-old female in the back seat was ejected and died as a result of the injuries she suffered. A 16-year-old female traveling as the front seat passenger suffered injuries described as life-threatening. The driver suffered “less-serious” injuries. Police claim that the vehicle was loaded with camping gear, food and alcohol but do not believe that alcohol was a contributing factor.
What should have been a time filled with friends and celebration quickly turned into a life-altering tragedy. Unfortunately, one family is left planning a funeral as a result of one girl’s unexpected and likely preventable death. In addition to coping with their grief, many people who have experienced such a loss struggle financially as a result of funeral costs. To help, some seek financial relief by filing a wrongful death lawsuit if a person’s death was caused by another’s negligence.
