Wrongful death: Fatal California crash under investigation

All drivers are aware of the potential hazards they face while traveling on California roadways. As a result, many take certain precautions, including obeying the speed limit and attempting to remove distractions while driving. Unfortunately, even the safest of drivers are sometimes unable to avoid the actions of others who may not be as cautious. In fact, the family of a deceased driver may be considering filing a wrongful death lawsuit following a recent crash.

Police say that an 18-year-old woman was driving a sedan south early one morning on a day in September. For reasons unknown, her vehicle apparently drifted into oncoming lanes of traffic, striking a northbound vehicle head on. The driver of that vehicle, a 27-year-old man, died as a result.

The first vehicle came to a rest in part of a northbound lane where it was struck by a pickup truck. The driver of the sedan reportedly suffered major injuries in the collision. Though police do not believe that alcohol or distracted driving played roles in the incident, the investigation is ongoing.

What may have started out as just another day for the deceased driver turned into a tragedy. Now his family is left planning a funeral following what may have been a preventable death. In addition to funeral costs, many people who lose a loved one unexpectedly face other financial complications, including lost wages. Fortunately, they do have legal options, including filing a wrongful death lawsuit. An attorney with experience with such cases in California can help a deceased victim’s surviving family members fully understand their options.
