Man arrested in California following drunk driving accident

SERVING TEMECULA AND THE SAN DIEGO METRO

Many drivers in California are attentive at all times. They drive defensively and go to great lengths to ensure that their actions do not cause an accident. Unfortunately, some are unable to avoid a driver who maneuvers suddenly and unexpectedly. In fact, police made an arrested following a recent drunk driving accident that resulted in a fatality and three injuries.

The incident happened just before midnight on a day in late May. According to reports, a 23-year-old man steered his car from the fast lane on a California freeway into the lane right of him. When he did so, police say, his vehicle struck a vehicle in that lane. The driver of the second vehicle is said to have lost control, causing the vehicle to strike a guardrail before rolling 150 to 250 feet down an embankment.

Two occupants of the vehicle where ejected; one was pronounced dead at the scene. Three people from the second vehicle were transported to the hospital with one suffering serious injuries. Police say that they found the first vehicle parked a short distance away from the accident, and the suspected driver, who police say admitted to driving the vehicle, in a gas station. He was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence causing great bodily injury and murder, among other accusations.

While the potential consequences of drinking and driving are well known, there are people who continue to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol. Unfortunately, a drunk driving accident can have serious consequences, as this accident demonstrates. A family is now left mourning the death of a loved one while the injured victims may be facing a long and difficult recovery. To help cope with the expenses of the accident, such as funeral costs, medical bills and lost wages, the victims of the accident — including the surviving family members of the deceased man — may choose to explore their legal options, including filing a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit.
